The Gilbert Clinic is located just outside The Capital Beltway (495) of Washington, DC on Rockville Pike (Route 355) in the building “One Central Plaza”. Note that though our address is on Rockville Pike, the entrance to One Central Plaza and its Parking Garage is actually located on Security Lane.

Please be aware that rush hour traffic in the capitol area can be extreme. Allow extra time between 7 and 9 am and again between 3 and 6 pm.

Public Transportation

The Gilbert Clinic is within walking distance of the White Flint Metro Station and is serviced by the buses of Route 46 and Route 5. Buses will offer a discounted fare to those transferring from the metro. Be sure to obtain a pass before leaving the metro station. Planning a trip from out-of-town

There are three airports in the Washington D.C. area. Reagan Washington National Airport is most easily accessible by Public Transportation, located within the bounds of Washington D.C., it is also the closest. Dulles International Airport (IAD), the largest of the three, is not connected to the Metro (the Washington Subway System), but a direct shuttle can be taken every half hour to the closest station.  BWI is just south of Baltimore and offers a great alternative with less crowds. Accommodations

For your consideration, these hotels are within a 5 mile radius of The Gilbert Clinic. Bethesda North Marriott (0.5 mi) is within walking distance to The Gilbert Clinic. It is close to the White Flint Metro station, thus providing easy access also to Washington DC. Ramada Inn (1.53 miles) provides a free shuttle and is just across the street of the Twinbrook Metro Station. Doubletree Hotel (1.57 miles) is also adjacent to this metro station. Bethesda Marriott (1.8 miles) offers a free shuttle to Downtown Bethesda and White Flint Mall between 6 and 9 pm. Bethesda Marriott Suites (2.0 miles) offers a complimentary shuttle to Westfields Montgomery Mall & to Grovesnor/Strathmore Metro Station. Bethesda Court Hotel (4.1 miles) offers a beautiful courtyard and luxury rooms.

 

Alternatively, you might enjoy staying at this Bed & Breakfast, Reynolds of Derwood, which offers a unique experience with an outside waterfall, hot tub and inside sauna. It is however 8.07 miles from The Gilbert Clinic and not accessible by public transportation.

We are more than happy to order meals for you while you are attending workshops. Just ask our receptionist when you arrive. We will have it ready for you when you take a break for lunch.

 

Dining in the Washington D.C. area consists of a great variety of tastes. We encourage you to explore restaurants in the cultural centers of Bethesda, as well as Georgetown, Old Town Arlington and Adams Morgan.

Recreation

Washington D.C. provides numerous attractions. If you are in the area for a few days, you might like to take advantage of some of the recreational activities it has to offer. Here are some useful tips for your planning and making it a truly fulfilling experience.

 

A great way to explore Washington D.C. in comfort is by taking one of its Tours. From Old Trolley to Scooter Tours, you are sure to find one that suits your agenda. Try the DC Heritage Walking Tours if you are up for a stroll, or the Gray Line Sightseeing Tours and Old Town Trolley Tour of Washington, DC  if you prefer a ride. The DC Ducks Tour will take you for a ride on the Potomac River, as well as on land. Enjoy the Monuments by Moonlight Tour or Washington DC Evening Segway Tour for a more romantic experience. Try the All Day Interior of Washington, DC Public Buildings Tour on rainy days. Touring Washington is facilitated for those with disabilities by http://www.disabilityguide.org/ and you will find the Washington, DC Scooter Tours to be very accommodating to special needs.

 

Most Museums are free of charge and easily accessible using the Metro System. Of particular interest are the Smithsonian and The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. A stroll along the “Mall” of Washington D.C. will put you in close proximity of most museums, the White House, The Monument, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Just take the Metro to Federal Triangle or the Smithsonian Station.

 

Very close to The Gilbert Clinic you will find Strathmore Hall, a new concert hall and Cultural Center, with performances ranging from classical, to musicals, to international music. The BSO (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) performs on a regular basis. Washington’s renowned center for performing arts, The John F. Kennedy Center ,is located right by the “Mall”. It features theater and musicals, dance and ballet, orchestral, chamber, jazz, popular, and folk music, as well as multi-media performances. Another performing art center of interest is the Clarence Smith Center. For more Opera also visit the Washington National Opera, Washington Concert Opera and Opera Camerata. Explore Fourteenth & U Streets to see Duke Ellington’s neighborhood and learn about African American culture and Jazz. You can also experience stellar jazz and blues performers at Blues Alley, in Georgetown. For big events and out-door music explore the Nissan Pavilion and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts .

 

Theatre thrives in Washington D.C. and there are many stages to choose from. Visit any of these for contemporary and traditional theatre productions: Gala Hispanic Theatre, National Theatre, Arena Stage, Olney Theatre Center, Round House Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre or Woolly Mammoth Theatre.

 

The National Institute of Health (NIH) is located just 2 miles south of The Gilbert Clinic on Rockville Pike. When visiting the campus, beware of the security measures. The library will not allow you to borrow books unless you have an NIH card, but you can browse journals and books in the Library Reading Room.

 

For out-door activities, explore some of the many parks in and around Washington D.C.. The impressive Great Falls National Park allows access on both the Maryland and Virginia sides. Also visit some of the beautiful gardens in Washington D.C. Relax in the soothing environment of Dumbarton Oaks Gardens, Meadowlark Gardens Regional Park, Anacostia National Park or learn about plants and trees at the National Arboretum. In the spring, Washington celebrates the Cherry Blossoms with a big festival, as these trees line the “Mall”. Glen Echo Park is an old Theme Park revived with classes in art and dancing.

 

If shopping is on your mind, you will find White Flint Mall just across the street of The Gilbert Clinic. Washington’s Chinatown, also known as the Seventh Street District, offers a wide variety of stores, as well as ethnic cuisines and an array of art galleries. For a small town feeling in historic settings, take a stroll along the streets of Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria. Eastern Market is an attractive flea market and you will also find many shops at this unique destination.  A glamorous mall and sight in its own is the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, where you will find many of your favorite stores, as well as exotic specialty stores.
